The "RF" prefix on the serial number "RF9890" indicates the rifle was manufactured by the Royal Ordnance Factory (ROF) Fazakerley. The Royal Ordnance Factory and the Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) were the only two makers of the No. 5 Mk I rifle, commonly known as the "Jungle Carbine".
