SMLE Mk.1 rear sight units

Description:

I have just finished cleaning up these antique original British SMLE Mark 1 .303 open rear sight units. #2 remaining available is wholly complete and in full working order while the third one is minus its bed. These sights represent the very finest of robust, rugged British engineering design & are beautiful examples of highly skilled machining practice of their day.

For those unfamiliar, the elevation slider steps along the elevation arm in positive 100 yards increments .... 200 to 2,000 yards. There is a separate winding knob beneath the sight blade which provides a fine elevation adjustment anywhere in between each 100 yard increments with helpful index marks inscribed on the left side of the blade housing. (See photos) Windage adjustment is handily provided by the winder on the right side of the sight blade.

Sight #1 (NOW SOLD SORRY!) featured a lowered elevation ramp profile to match the trajectory of the later developed Mk. VII type ammunition (ie. 174 gr. pointed bullet).

Sight #2 is of an earlier date & features a more raised elevation ramp profile to match the trajectory of the older Mk. VI type ammunition (ie. 215 gr. round nose bullet).

Sight #3 comes with some extras to help in fitting it to an existing sight bed which is usually found soldered onto the barrel. These sight arms were commonly removed by "fullbore target shooters" seeking an unhindered sight picture when using their rear-mounted target aperture sights.

Each sight is in excellent working condition (especially considering their age) & is NOT degraded by rust, damage, pitting, wear or butchering.
