Description:
1943 H barrel SMLE "designated marksman" rifle.
Built by Lithgow in 1943, with FTR in 3/46.
Correct H stamp on barrel nocks form and wrist of butt stock.
Matching number bolt/reciever/fore stock and nose cap.
Original SLAZ stamped molded cheak piece and broad arrow marked triangular sling swivel.
Provided with a 1952 dated muzzle cover, and period original sling.
Rifle has a Taylor type #3 micrometer sight with 2x electropencled Defence broad arrow acceptance marks on the sight body, and an additional 1x stamped broad arrow mark. Sight is on a mounting plate stamped with MA and broad arrow marks.
Rifle functions flawlessly, barrel appears to be a 9/10, bolt passes headspace test.
Timberwork is in excellent condition but appears to have been lightly sanded by previous owner. Draws appears to have had a slight crack in the past, but are solid and well repaired. Rifle is fitted with a long butt stock marked with a "L" just behind the cheak piece. Timber forestock has had the central barrel band plugged with a timber dowel, a common occurrence during FTR when swapping from the standard to heavy profile barrel.
