Description:
Very rare FN Mauser in 30-06. Made in 1952 for Belgian Congo (FP 1952 crest). The rifle has a low serial number.
In his book "Mauser Military Rifles of the World" Robert Ball claims there is only one rifle currently present. I find it hard to believe, however this model is indeed very rare.
This particular rifle is in fair condition. It was definitely issued to a Congo warrior - the stock has a lot of dents and small crack in the front hand guard. Bluing is at 20-30%, with minor rust and pitting on the bolt. Despite of that, the bore is surprisingly good, rifling is strong and goes all the way to the crown. Maybe they gave them the guns but did not trust with the ammo?
I bought this gun only recently with intention to keep it for a long time, but it turns out that this money was supposed to "fund a family holidays in Noosa". Very reluctant sale, it will be perfect for a hardcore Mauser collector.
