Description:
100% historically correct M1874 US Cavalry Saddle Bags. This bag is from the period during the 19th century that was also called the 'Indian Wars'.
The M1874 is one of the rarest 19th century US Cavalry saddle bags, which was patterned after an earlier experimental model in canvas, but is made of leather.
I had a very good leathersmith, who specialised in US cavalry (and other leather items from this era) items recreate this custom item for me.
Everything in it is historically correct, down to stamps and the cotton inside the bags (special order from USA).
The entire thing was hand sewn and the leathersmith said this was one of the most time-consuming bags he had ever made.
It is in excellent condition (as new), and has been stored inside.
I originally had it made for single action shooting to go with a US cavalry uniform. The whole setup was from the Indian Wars era in the 19th century. These bags are much larger than the more common M 1859 saddle bags, existing before, during and after the US civil war.
The cost of this one of a kind reproduction was in excess of $700. Unfortunately, I have to make room at home for a second child and this item has to go. It is a regretful sale but I hope the new owner will appreciate it as much as me. It will make an excellent (and different) carry bag.
Selling for $250 firm.
