Description:
This is a very early bolt action single shot rook rifle which is built on a miniature 1871 Mauser action. It has no makers mark but has German proof marks. Circa late 1870s manufacture.
The forend of the stock is retained by a muzzle loader style wedge and a tang screw. Double set triggers, cheekpiece and schnabel style forend make this a very stylish looking rifle.
Retains most of its original bluing and the stock has been re-oiled. Impressed or cast engraving on the action, tang and trigger guard.
A crack through the wrist has been repaired, there is a knot and a small fragment of wood missing from near the butt plate and the bore is poor. Is generally in good external condition for it's age.
Chambered for the .360 No. 5 Rook cartridge which was packaged and sold by Kynoch in continental Europe as the 9.1X27R.
The rifle is listed as a .38 Special as this website forced me to put a caliber that was in it's database. The rifle is registered and requires a PTA as it will chamber and fire .38 Special cartridges (though not recommended obviously).
This is one of the earliest bolt action sporting rifles you are likely to see.
Accessories and ammo shown are not included.
An article about this rifle has been published in the February 2022 edition of the Australian Shooter magazine.
Sold pending PTA and funds.
