Description:
Pre WW2-German Deluxe Fireman’s Presentation Dress Axe. These axes were issued to Firemen for many reasons, e.g., time served in the service, bravery, achievements, rank, etc.
It has an Ebony upper grip is Nickel plated, Engraved and has a Bone Handle with Brass wire wrap. There is a nickel-plated round knob at the base of the handle. The bone has a couple of fine surface cracks (given the age) but doesn’t impair the item. It is solid and strong.
There are presentation plates on both sides of the axe which are inscribed with the German Firefighter motto;
Loosely translated it means;
"Gott zur Ehr, dem Nächsten zur Wehr." -
"To honour God, (and) to defend your neighbour (against fire)."
