Description:
SOLD IN ONE DAY
Condition Good to Very Good
Best period Sako L461 (long extractor/FN style t/guard) fitted with later stylish bolt shroud. Great basis for a bespoke ultralight. Brilliant trigger, action slick like on roller bearings, clean bolt face, minor 12mm stain on bolt guide will easily polish off, bluing worn where held over the decades, nice early (very slim) orange stock, no cracks or splits inside or out. Douglas button rifled barrel, looks like a #2 (?) standard sporter weight, bore smooth as glass and clearly maintained to a very high level by previous owner/s. Slightly over factory profile. Very stiff with the 17 cal bore
No ugly gaping gaps between brl and stock.
Grip cap replaced with ebony(?), and factory sling swivels replaced with some fancy press button quick release system I have not seen before.
Comes with :
CH Dies. (Big Boys Toys)
150 cases, all prepped and measured and batched at 0.199" neck.
50 cases in final stages of neck turn to 0.197" neck.
Most trimmed to Max OAL 1.390"approx 50 around .003" less.
I suggest the buyer anneals these cases, an investment in many more reloads.
Note: Easily rechambered to 17 Fireball, or 17Rem. if you want factory brass. 17 Mach will chamber in 17 Fireball, so you wont 'lose' these cases. Plus theres plenty of interest from buyers wanting the Mach 4 dies/brass.
No reason why it wont shoot small groups despite age, esp as barrel was originally 17 AH so most likely explains bore condition.
Dont assume the bore is a basket case, it isnt, its done little work and its always been cleaned properly. Ive owned plenty of different 17's and its very easy to tell when one has been ruined by pouring out hot rounds without cooling and cleaning.
Ive seen 17 Remington Sako 461's and Rem 700's ruined with just one box of factory ammunition. That copper just never leaves, its like a fat relative
No groups or claims for accuracy?? Well I've been sick for 2 years with covid, then cancer and now a heart attack, and havent been shooting let alone hunting so have not been to the range with it yet. I had to sell a 4.5-14X VX3-i that was intended to go on this little girl but.../0\
Bought this just this year for something to occupy my mind, and it was great fun checking the specs on the 200 cases.
Something the buyer wont have to do.
Can wreck and sell separately for more and will if not sold by October.
I think its a good thing but times are changing it seems. We'll see.
Weight as pictured 3.1kg
Barrel 23.5"
