Description:
This rifle has a rich history. Built originally as a .308 by the late "Master Gunsmith" John Giles in Brisbane for Stan Golinski, and was then owned by the late Graeme Berman, and then Malcolm Jones, all from the top end of fullbore and 300m shooting in Australia, and all men I am fortunate to have been able to call friends . Stan shot this stock/action (as a .308) at 300m in the Caracas World Championships in 1982. I acquired it from Mal, when he retired from shooting.
John Giles liked the Rem 700 action, simply because it could be worked extremely well to make it more than competitive with any other action. The sleeve makes it very stable, and also very easy to bed. The stock is an Anschutz free rifle style, and compliant with ISSF rules. The rifle weighs about 7.2 kg. Should a different calibre be required, there are two .308 barrels of different weights and profiles available.
I found that the recoil of 190 gr projectiles was not so good for my light frame after 70 or so shots in an English Match, so I got John Giles to re-barrel it in 6BR. I shot it at 300m through the last 10 or so years of my shooting career, including in the Oceania Games where we finished 2nd with 590 or 591 (it was a long time ago), a point behind another extraordinarily talented shooter and genuine gentleman, the late David Hollister.
The rifle comes with a set of PSECO straightline dies, plus a PSECO straightline press, and a good number of neck-turned (.262 necks) cases. There is also a set of barrel clamps and action tool, plus a set of scope rings, lapped to ensure precise scope alignment.
The rifle has been carefully stored since I finished shooting, but I am down-sizing my life, so it's time to pass it onto someone who can make better use of it. It will be sent in a hard rifle case with foam inserts.
