Description:
Very nice condition, good patina on metal and nice woodwork. Operates perfectly, very tight action and strong rifling. This is the first series of Stevens hunting rifles - manufactured by Savage firearms at the end of WW2 to break into the sporting firearms market and utilise the stockpile of 30 cal machine gun barrels that were left over from war production. The name "Stevens" was adopted to differentiate the sporting firearms from the military weapons branded "Savage" and the calibre was chosen because the barrels were .30 cal and the .30/30 Win was the most popular hunting round in America at the time. Would be great for pig shooting or just to shoot for fun and appreciate it's history (like I have). Manufactured circa 1946.
