2nd Boer War 7mm Mauser

Description:

Purchased from Southern Cross Militaria a few years back. Markings, pattern (1893 Spanish) and serial number conform to a Google search indicating the first part of the first contract Mauser rifles supplied to the ZAR (Republic of South Africa), this was substantiated by the book "The History, Mechanics & Firing Characteristics of the Boer Mausers" by Guy & Leonard Alston, Roberts & West. After the British victory in the 2nd Boer War, most of these rifles were confiscated and destroyed. The survivors, along with more detail can be found in the book by Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons YT, book by Headstamp Publishing. Further photos are available via text or email as this site is quite limited. Rifle is well used, but well maintained and shoots well. A rare piece of history, I am changing the focus of my shooting to Cowboy action rather than collecting.
